Queensland Paintball Licence Flow Chart

The most commonly held licence in Queensland is a general ‘Firearms Licence’ (Cat A & B) .
Which is suitable for the needs of farmers, sports and target shooters including paintball guns.
If you have a licence and want to buy a weapon, you must complete a ‘permit to acquire’ (PTA). Only people with a valid weapons’ licence can complete this form.

Do you have a current Queensland Firearms / Shooters licence ?

Yes

Do you have PB1, as a Condition on you licence ?
Yes :-You can proceed to apply for your PTA

No:- You will need:

  • A letter from a paintball club official, stating that you have permission to play paintball.
    As you are changing your Conditions, this impacts on your Genuine Reason.
  • Complete a Form 4B – Change of Weapons Category and/or Change of Condition(s) of Licence
  • On the Form 4B, Tick the box, Change of Conditions and fill in the required details.
  • Lodge the Form 4B together with the permission letter from the paintball field, at a Queensland Police Station.

If approved you will get a updated firearms licence, with a PB1 condition added to it.
You can now proceed to apply for your PTA.

To apply for a weapons licence in Queensland you need to:
1. Meet the personal eligibility requirements.
2. Completed an approved weapons safety course and ensure
it applies to the weapon categories to be endorsed on your licence.
3. Have a genuine reason to hold a licence.
4. Have access to secure storage facilities.
5. Be able to pay the required fees.
